David Phillips has over 35 years of healthcare experience, primarily in out-of-hospital care.  He began his career as a firefighter in Houston, and was trained as a paramedic in 1989.  He has worked in the field on both ambulances and helicopters, in hospitals and clinics, and at clinical research firms. David has held chief executive positions for a variety of businesses for the past 15 years, and has guided two businesses to successful exits.  He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.

 

As an administrator for the Public Health Department in Beaumont, Texas, in 1997, David began experimenting with using highly trained and experienced paramedics to provide non-emergency health care and social services to high-utilizers of EMS and ED care.  Over several years and in different communities, he gradually refined this service and incorporated the use of paramedics in a call center, using very specific algorithms and protocols, to greatly enhance the out-of-hospital management of high-needs patients. 

 

David now lives near Austin, Texas with his wife, two children and a herd of pets, including three Australian Shepherds.
